 The Disease of Addiction

This is a diagnosis and disease that can tear apart not only the individual but the families, friends and those lives attached to it. As a clinical therapist with working within addiction for 6 years, the depth of this disease has encouraged me to become endeared to work with not only just individuals but within the family system as well. This is a disease, and the goal of therapy is to identify the triggers, to better understand the cravings, identify coping skills with using thoughts or dreams, and to engage in the healing process to restore trust, hope and learning the HOW, Honesty, Openness, and Willingness. Addiction and the concept of disease, versus the idea of choice is a difficult conceptualization, but can provide an understanding within the whirlwind of life. The pain and suffering associated with this disease can interrupt and take someones life. If you are experiencing addiction with yourself or a loved one and in need of processing, please do not hesitate to reach out to begin the healing process. Addiction can isolate, make you feel alone whether it is yourself or being a loved one, the healing process begins with exploring healing.
